Nuppusin 6 – Footprints of goddesses and patternless patterns is the sixth part in the Nuppus pattern book series. This book is different from the previous ones, because now we want to challenge you to try a completely different way of thinking about the structure of a garment and to draw the patterns completely according to your own measurements. At the same time, the entire fabric is used to the last bit!

The ancient Greeks already mastered zero waste thinking and were able to create beautifully fitting clothes from simple pattern parts without wasting any of the precious fabric. This book's zero waste patterns consist of rectangles, triangles and parallelograms, drawn by yourself according to your own measurements. The patterns can be placed on the fabric so that there is just no fabric residue - or if there is, the shape of them is such that they are easy to use for another project.

In the book, there is a diverse collection of different models, so there are suitable patterns for both beginners and experienced sewing enthusiasts. The simpler clothes consist of two rectangles, which are sewn together with a couple of stitches. So anyone can succeed with them! The more complicated clothes require a little more knowledge and processing of the pattern parts, so they provide a challenge to those who have sewn more.

The book includes dresses, skirts, tops, jackets and blouses. There are patterns for both stretchy materials and woven fabrics, such as thin cotton sateen. Most designs are for ladies, but some models are also suitable for men and children. We also give tips on how you can use the fabric scraps as suitable accessories.

Thanks to their ingenious cuts, the clothes fit incredibly beautifully on different body shapes. The book's models can become long-term favorite clothes, because many of them are designed to adapt to changing shapes or can be dressed in different ways for variety. The longer you can use the same item of clothing, the better for the environment!

 About the author

The book's patterns and sewing descriptions are made by Eeva Tähtikarhu. She has a master's degree in textile science, and is thoroughly committed to zero waste. Eeva loves shapely pleats, practical pockets and the feeling when no fabric is wasted. Eeva is a versatile expert in the environmental sector, who in her day job at John Nurminen Säätiö saves the Baltic Sea and its heritage for future generations.

For Eeva, it is important that you can use a carefully manufactured item of clothing for at least twenty years. Therefore, the clothes are designed to stand the test of time and to adapt to changing shapes. The best thing would be that the favorite dress would also fit a few copies, so it can go to parties as often as possible!

The patterns in Nuppusin are intended for private use only.

The lovely pictures in the book were taken by Emma Ronkainen.
