JAWOLL SILK superwash is a beautiful yarn, just like our classic Jawoll. JAWOLL SILK is made from Tussah silk and wool from the Corriedale sheep. This type of silk is wild silk, which is obtained from the larvae or cocoons of free-living Japanese oak silk moths. The thread is also slightly stronger than mulberry silk - an unwound cocoon usually yields a silk thread between 1200 and 1400 meters long. For JAWOLL SILK, only the finest part of the wool fleece is sorted out during cutting. The average thickness, the diameter of the fiber, is only 25 micrometers (1 micrometer = 1/1000 mm), which makes the wool feel very soft and is very comfortable to wear. Corriedale sheep live year-round in the natural wilderness of Patagonia. Due to the scarce supply of food, their wool remains white and grows to an average pile length of 10 cm. This means that it takes up dyes well, the colors are brilliant and the finished yarn is very resistant to pilling (knot formation). Due to the superior quality of the fibres, JAWOLL is also excellent for baby and toddler knitting and for men's knitting.
